Open Closet (OC)

Open Closet is a social support group for youth between 14 and 18 years of age who identify as gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, two-spirited, queer and questioning their sexual orientation (LGBT2Q). The group started in early 2002 and has served approximately 1,100 youth. OC is open to youth from Perth, Huron, Lambton, Elgin, Middlesex and Oxford.
The group learns and has discussions about issues such as coming out to parents and friends, queer identities, LGBT2Q history, survival strategies, accessing community, safer sex and healthy and unhealthy relationships.
Open Closet also provides access to information about HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and provide referrals to community services and resources according to individual needs.

- To foster LGBT2Q+ youth empowerment through strengths-based activities, skills/capacity-building opportunities, leadership development, education and community engagement
- To honour the resilience, creativity and potential of LGBT2Q+ youth as leaders, change-makers, and members of the broader community
Local referrals accepted from friends, family members, community organizations/groups and/or schools.
Open Closet usually runs every Friday night from 7-9 p.m., with occasional cancellations due to inclement weather or other emergent situation.
