Food for Queers
Food for Queers is an entirely volunteer run initiative meant to provide meals to those who are in need.
Section 1 - Access to Meals
Food quantities and varieties are based on donations and are subject to change frequently. While a vegetarian option is offered when available, it is your responsibility to ensure we are informed of any food allergies. If the meal available includes items that are on your allergy list, we may be unable to deliver a meal to you.
Section 2 - Delivery
Delivery times and dates are estimates and actuals may vary due to weather conditions and other factors, some of which may be outside of our control. If there are events beyond our control that interfere with our ability to deliver a meal to you on your scheduled delivery day, we will attempt to deliver your meal on the following day. In the event that we remain unable to deliver a meal to you, we will contact you and let you know.
Due to COVID-19 and health precautions, Queer Events volunteers will be taking all precautions recommended by the Health Unit and will be doing non-contact delivery. Meals will be dropped off on front doorsteps/ apartment lobbies and you will be notified of delivery. We request that you do not interact with or approach the volunteers for both yours and their safety.
Section 3 - Safety of Volunteers
If a volunteer encounters threatening or unsafe behavior at a drop off location, we reserve the right to refuse service for the safety of our team.
Section 4 - Liability
Queer Events is offering the Food for Queers program in good faith to ensure that no member of our community goes hungry.
As per the Donation of Food Act, 1994, SO 1994, c 19 in Ontario, a person who donates food or who distributes donated food to another person is not liable for damages resulting from injuries or death caused by the consumption of the food unless,
(a) the food was adulterated, rotten or otherwise unfit for human consumption; and
(b) in donating or distributing the food, the person intended to injure or to cause the death of the recipient of the food or acted with reckless disregard for the safety of others. 1994, c. 19, s. 1 (1).
Queer Events will strive to ensure that donated meals are prepared in safe commercial kitchens that are operated according to all health and safety recommendations.
